Remedy for Swollen Gum From Bad Tooth

Causes

The swelling of gums usually occurs on account of an absence in oral and dental hygiene. This condition is a symptom or sign of an underlying problem and is not a disease by its self. Swollen gums can be caused due to a large number of reasons such as; infection, cavity or a bad tooth, gingivitis, periodontitis or pyorrhea, monilia, allergies and improper nourishment. Some of the symptoms of this condition are; sensation of pain when the gums are touched or pressed, bleeding if there is an inflammation, the teeth may get loose and shaky, reddening of the gums, and there could also be an accumulation of pus. The swelling in your case is on account of the gum being inflamed, due to bacterial infection from the bad tooth. Such kind of swelling can prove to be rather painful and can cause a lot of discomfort.

Home Remedies

Here are a few home remedies that can help in reducing the swelling. The best way to treat a swelling is through the application of a hot compress. This is the oldest and most effective way of bringing down any kind of swelling. Simply dip a cloth or towel in a bowl of hot water, and then hold it against the cheek that corresponds to the affected tooth, for around 15 minutes. This treatment will enhance blood circulation and will reducing swelling, if done 2-3 times a day. Clove oil is also excellent when it comes to treating dental ailments, as it contains anti-septic properties. Gently massage a few drops of the oil on the inflamed gum, with the help of your index finger, for a minute. The oil has to be applied 2-3 times a day to get the swelling to subside. As an alternative you could also chew on a piece of clove, it will work just as well.

Take a small piece of ginger and grind it into a thin paste. Add a dash of salt to this paste and then apply it on to the swollen gum 2-3 times a day. This treatment will also help in reducing the swelling. Take a teaspoon of baking soda and add some water to make a thick paste. Apply the paste on to the gum line, with the help of your fingers. Once the application is complete, brush your teeth as you do regularly. This treatment will help in neutralizing any bacteria that are present below the gum line, and thus prevent further infection.
