Worms In Toddler

There are no worms that are called tag worms and the assumption then is that your toddler has tapeworms. This is a product of ingesting food that is contaminated with the worm, or by ingestion into the stomach by dirty hands. In a toddler, this condition is really dangerous as the child’s immune system is not capable of handling an infection like tapeworm. You should immediately take the child to the doctor to treat this infection.

Tapeworms Symptoms

Tapeworms are a group of organisms along with bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa that can invade the human body and take up residence in us, reproduce and in some cases live for as long as ten years in the human host. Tapeworms are of two types. The first one is present when infected beef is eaten. This infection of tapeworm is largely asymptomatic and one can carry on with out even knowing of an infection though in rare cases, nausea and vomiting occur. It is the infection from the pork tapeworm that is really dangerous for humans. There are two types of infections that can occur due to the presence of pork tapeworm. In the first type of infection, the pig is the intermediate host, the eggs of the worm were ingested by the pig, and the worm grew in the pig’s intestine and moved into the muscles of the pig as a larva or oncoshpere. Therefore, eating infected pork transmits these oncospheres into the human intestine, where a fully formed worm then develops. This is quite safe in relative terms. If however the eggs of the tapeworm are ingested directly by a human by touching contaminated soil and then the hand coming into contact with the mouth, as is the case in children, the eggs hatch in the stomach and move into various parts of the body by boring through tissue. It is especially dangerous because they can enter the central nervous system and will set up a nest in the brain, feeding off the nutrients in the cerebrospinal fluid. This condition may not lead directly to death, but it can be an eventuality after the occurrence of seizures, blurred vision, and other brain anomalies. Once the worm grows to its full size, it stops secreting immunosupressing agents and then the body’s inflammatory response itself could kill a human being.

It strongly advised that you take your child to a doctor immediately, as there is no definite way of figuring out where the worm infection came from. Until this is ascertained by the exact location of the worm in the body, there is no use in prescribing a remedy.
