How To Treat Dry Hair & Dandruff Using Home Remedies?

It's the lack of oil and moisture in our scalp and hair that gives rise to problems like dandruff and dry hair, subsequently resulting in hair loss as well. There are many reasons for our scalp and hair becoming excessively dry. The nourishment of our scalp is provided through our blood stream. Hence, our diet plays a very important role in ensuring that our sebaceous glands are functioning well. If your intake of water and essential fatty acids is insufficient, it will make the scalp produce inadequate natural oils, leading to dryness. Consume two liters of water, lots of green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits, and seeds and nuts everyday to provide the needed hydration and nourishment to your scalp. Overexposure to extreme weather, sun, and pollution also strips away the moisture from the hair. Keep your hair covered with a hat or a scarf whenever you step out. Avoid shampoos, conditioners, hair colors and dyes with harsh chemicals, and heating equipment like iron and blow dryers.

Dandruff Treatment

There are many remedies that will get rid of both the dandruff and dryness of the scalp and hair. One of these is oiling your hair thrice a week. Heat coconut oil till it’s lukewarm and then massage it into your scalp and hair thoroughly. Let it stay overnight, and wash it off with a mild shampoo in the morning. You can follow the same procedure with olive oil as well. Olive oil also works great in providing moisture and getting rid of dandruff.

Alternatively, heat coconut oil and add fresh lemon juice to it and massage the lukewarm mixture into your scalp and hair. Let it remain for 20 minutes and then shampoo it off. Applying aloe vera gel all over the scalp and keeping it on for 30 minutes before washing the hair is also very beneficial in treating dandruff and adding moisture to the hair. Use a final rinse made of one part vinegar and three parts water after every shampoo to get rid of dandruff and condition your hair. Another effective remedy is adding a few drops of rosemary oil to half a cup of coconut oil. Massage your scalp with this mix thoroughly and let it sit overnight. Wash your hair with warm water mixed with lemon juice the next morning. If your hair fall is rapid, you can apply the juice of coriander leaves, let it stay on overnight, and wash it off the next morning. Though, taking care of dandruff will reduce hair loss too.
