Can Constipation Cause Back Pain

You may feel that constipation and back ache have no relationship with each other. However, that is not entirely true. There are many conditions Different conditions have different effects on the body and the symptoms for both constipation and back pain can be different for different conditions. that have back pain and constipation both as their symptoms.

Constipation can take as little as a couple of hours and as long as a couple of weeks to actually clear. In chronic constipation, there is a complete blockage and no stool can be passed for days or even weeks. The stool, when it finally moves, is dry and hard. When you strain and put the effort to pass the stool, the effort can add to the already mounting pain. The presence of both back pain and constipation together could signify a condition called the irritable bowel syndrome. This is an intestinal disorder that can be quite serious if attention is not paid to it immediately.

To relieve yourself of constipation and backache, start consuming lots of fluids. The body needs a lot of water to keep hydrated. The body is made up of 70% water and to maintain that balance is very important. Not drinking enough water or the depletion of fluids from the body is a primary cause of constipation. Increase your water intake so that you are drinking at least10-12 glasses of water everyday. Not only does this help to loosen up the stool and make it easier for the body to expel it, it also cures minor back pains.

With the increased intake, of water, also increase the intake of dietary fiber. Vegetables and fruits contain a good amount of natural dietary fiber which allows the movement of food through the alimentary canal. The fiber in the food also helps in expelling the stool through the rectum.

The back pain can often be relieved by removing your pillow or lying down on the floor. In fact, lie prostrate on the floor and place your feet on a raised platform or a chair. This relieves the pressure from your lower back and helps regulate the flow of blood so that any pressure on the back area is released. If you have a sedentary job, it is important that you exercise regularly so that all your muscles get stretched and your body doesn’t feel fatigued. With regular exercise, your back muscles will get strengthened.

Eat a healthy and balanced diet to uphold your immunity. However if there is little or no change in your condition, it is best to consult a doctor and get professional medical help.
