What Is Anal Fissure

It is nothing but an ulcer or a tear in the anal canal lining. Anal fissures can anyone, but are more frequently found in young adults and in middle-aged people. Sometimes, and only sometimes, can a fissure be hard to heal if it aggravates itself by causing a spasm in the anal sphincter.

Common Symptoms Of Anal Fissure

  • Labored bowel movements
  • Blood in stools, observed in the commode or on toilet paper

By and large fissures are the result of chronic constipation and by forcing hard stools down the anus. They are also known to occur during childbirth, or through ulceration of hemorrhoids. However, they can be treated quite easily in many ways. Your doctor is the best one to help you understand the different treatment methods and how they differ.

Yoga for Anal Fissures

You will have to follow a basic program consisting of asanas (yoga poses), pranayama (breathing exercises) and Yogic diet.

Asanas (Yoga Poses)

You can do all the prescribed poses in the sitting, standing, prone, supine and inverted positions with more emphasis on the Inverted and Prone poses.

Avoid sitting for too long and don’t do the seated poses for too long either as they might aggravate your condition.

Pranayama (Breathing Exercises)

You should do Mild Kapalabhati (Skull Cleansing) followed by 5 – 6 rounds of Anuloma-Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing). With time, and improvements in your health you can increase the number of rounds.

Yogic Diet

Have lots and lots of water – at least 10-12 glasses a day. This is especially important for your condition since anal fissures are most often the result of constipation, resulting from irregular or wrong eating habits. All of us make choices that give us cause to regret but avoid pondering over your mistakes. The point is to rectify them and get back on your feet fast. So please stick to a Sattvic (pure and simple), predominantly vegetarian Yogic Diet. Have foods rich in fiber, lots of fresh fruits and salads. But see that you avoid milk until you are completely okay.

For faster Healing We Recommend That You Avoid:

  • Dynamic and active sports, such as even brisk walking, jogging
  • Using toilet papers. Use water instead, since it is more cleansing and soothing
  • Scratching at all costs. You could get sorer and infect the area.
  • Oily foods, spicy foods, junk foods and fast foods should be avoided.
  • Drinking alcohol, tea and coffee, and smoking should also be avoided.
