How to prepare baths salts at home.

Commercial bath salts are not only expensive but also contain preservatives and chemical ingredients which can be harmful for the skin. You can make bath salts at home through simple methods and reap the benefits. The base for any bath salt is Epsom or Dead Sea salt. The most simple and easiest recipe for the base is mixing three parts of Epsom salt, two parts of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and one part sea salt. Baking soda will soften the skin. Remember not to use table or cooking salt as it dries the skin. Measure the proportionate components and put them in a mixing bowl. You can mix them with hand or use a spoon. Mix for about two to three minutes. If you plan to make different scented salts, you may prepare the base in bulk. Then divide it into portions as you desire.

To give the bath salt a characteristic scent you need to add fragrant oils to it. You can add 10 to 12 drops of essential oil to the mixture. You can try lavender, sandal wood, jasmine, rose, vanilla, or eucalyptus. Essential oils can be expensive and you can replace them with fragrant oils which are cheaper and have a gentle effect on the skin. Add the oil a few drops at time and mix well into the salt. If the fragrance is too strong, you can add some more base salt to even the strong smell. You need not worry as you will dilute your bath salt in the water.

In case you want to make it colorful you can add cosmetic grade colors or food coloring paste. Store them in clean mason jars, baby food jars, or even jelly jars. They are all available at home and you need not spend extra money on expensive jars.
