Yoga To Fight Midlife Crisis

Yoga For Midlife Crisis

I'm a certified Yoga instructor and I decided to take the teacher's training course (TTC) way back in 1991. At that time, I wasn't really sure why, but I think I was doing it because I was seeking refuge during a rather confusing phase in my life.

I had just been laid off from a dream job thanks to the "dot com boom". It had lots of promise but lost its lure when it lost its venture funding, along with hundreds of other similar start-ups. My Dad was in his 6th month of living with bone cancer. My youngest son had just left for college. We were selling our home of 15 years. My 18 year old dog wasnt going to be around for much longer. There were lots of endings, many losses. I'm so thankful now that I turned to Yoga.it became my inner compass through midlife.

I had been practicing Yoga off and on for many years and it always made me feel better. But it was only after my TTC, I must admit, that I realized what a deeper practice would mean to me. Yoga is not just a wonderful way to relieve muscle tension and stay flexible. It's a way or remaining centered in times of flux and transition. It's a way of becoming more aware of what you need and to take care of yourself accordingly. Quite naturally, it became a path to a more spiritual way of being in the world. As it turned out, it's also so much fun!

However, I would recommend that to enjoy the benefits of Yoga you start young, say like in your early twenties, then see how life is a breeze, menopause is just another phase and midlife crisis is just some stuff from the books.
