Instructions for Detoxifying Panting Dog Breath of Fire

  • Sit in the Rock Pose or Vajrasana.

To do so, simply kneel and sit back on your heels. Make sure the tops of your feet are flat on the ground and your heels press into your buttocks.
  • Lean a little ahead and place your hands on your knees.
  • Open your mouth wide and put out your tongue.
  • Now, pant like a dog would. All your breathing should take place through your mouth. Don’t hold back now – just pant as forcefully as you can.
  • As you exhale, pull your stomach muscles in sharply. This action is very similar to the Kapalbhati Pranayama.
  • Your pace of breathing should be rapid throughout the exercise.
  • You may begin to feel a strange metallic taste. Do not be alarmed. This happens as the body purges itself of all the toxins and begins to eliminate them. Start off by doing the exercise for 15 seconds at a time if you are a beginner. Build up to one to five minutes as your capacity increases.
