After its revival the yoga technique was taught to disciples in an unbroken link of spiritual succession. Paramhansa Yogananda is one of the most popular names associated with this type of yoga. Kriya yoga is taught through initiation and cannot be understood by reading a book on Kriya yoga. It is important to learn the technique from a Kriya yogi or kriyaban to learn this form of yoga and reap the health benefits. The Kriya technique is known to act as a source of inspiration and provide all answers that a practitioner may have in mind. Kriya yoga clears the brain, strengthens and stimulates the functions of the brain and helps magnetize the body. Kriya yoga operates on the premise of stimulating the source of growth or spiritual energy in the spine. This spiritual energy is stimulated and strengthened through breathing exercises that help open the channels of energy and help maintain an energy balance within the body. The proponents of Kriya yoga suggest that Kriya yoga as a method can oxygenate the blood reducing dependence on normal ways such as breathing to keep the body alive. It is also important to note that Kriya yoga is not an instant way to gain spiritual consciousness. Kriya yoga or the Path of Kriya that is taught today comprises of four techniques that include energization exercises, Aum technique of meditation, Hong Sau technique of concentration and the Kriya technique. It takes about a year to master or establish the first three techniques from a Kriya yogi. Learning the Kriya technique is the last step to the Path of Kriya. Discipleship is also of utmost importance to the Path of Kriya. The Kriya yogi has to continue practicing the techniques even after receiving the Kriya technique.
