Gout is a condition that results from an abnormal metabolism of uric acid in a person’s body. Individuals that suffer from this condition either produce an excessive amount of uric acid or there is a problem in getting rid of it from the body. As a result of this, the levels of uric acid in the blood are higher than normal, this then leads to the formation of crystals which go on to get lodged in the joints. This is a very painful and chronic condition that can be caused due to several reasons such as; excessive intake of alcohol, genetics, consumption of protein rich foods on a regular basis, stress and anxiety, a sedentary lifestyle and so on.

Epsom salt has proved to be beneficial in the treatment of this condition, as it helps in flushing out uric acid through the skin. Warm baths in Epsom salt 2-3 times a week, is recommended for those that suffer from this ailment. All you need to do is, add 1 cup of this salt to your warm bath water (preferably before bedtime), and then soak yourself in the water for about 20 minutes. Here are a few additional home remedies that can help in keeping this condition under control. One of the best ways of treating gout is eating plenty of cherries on a daily basis. Cherries whether sour or sweet are known to be extremely effective in treating this particular ailment. You can start by consuming 20-25 cherries a day and then can gradually reduce the quantity to 10 per day. Fresh cherries are generally recommended for this form of treatment.

Diet And Foods For Gout

Vegetable juices if had regularly will also help in controlling gout attacks. Carrot juice when combined with cucumber and beet juice is said to be very helpful. You will need to mix the juices in a proportion of 3:1:1. Three parts carrot juice and one part each of beet and cucumber juice. Half a liter of this juice if had daily, will definitely keep this condition under control. Apples contain a substance known as malic acid, which is said to have a neutralizing effect on uric acid. People suffering from this condition are recommended to have an apple after every meal. An organic substance known as purine, has been found to be one of the main culprits responsible for causing this condition. Foods such as red meats and beans, contains high levels of purines and hence must be avoided.
