A poultice is a generic term used for a paste like substance made to be used for medicinal purposes. Basically, the structure and quality of a mixture is what defines it as a poultice, not its ingredients alone. To make it simpler, there is no recipe for a poultice. This is because a poultice can be made of thousands of things, in combination or in isolation. For instance, some of the things that can be used to make a poultice are flour, meal, bread, herbs, clay, food substances and so on. The thing about a poultice is that it needs to be thick and strong and needs to adhere to your body. This is because a poultice is usually used to alleviate pain and inflammation in the body. A poultice can be considered extremely useful in dealing with internal injuries that cause internal pain. While there are certain pain killers that could be of great use and help, you can always use a poultice as well. A poultice to deal with the pain has been used since time immemorial and it has been found to be very helpful as well. A poultice is known to work by using warmth and its ingredients to draw out the pain and help with healing the body. Although it is commonly used for internal pains and inflammations only, there are certain kinds of poultices that can be used on open wounds as well. However, you would need to have someone knowledgeable with a recipe that has been handed down through generations to give it to you. There is absolutely no point in trying to make a concoction of things that will backfire on you.

A basic poultice used for help with pain can be made with Fuller’s earth and sandalwood, rose water and coarsely ground gram flour. This needs to be left in an oven to warm for a while before it can be spread out on a piece of cloth and used on the affected area. The correct way to use a poultice is to spread it out on a piece of cloth and then apply the cloth to your skin. Let this be till the poultice cools down. You can always reheat and reapply it if you want. If you have too much pain or an internal injury, you can also add turmeric powder to the mix. This will also be extremely useful in helping to heal you better and faster all round.
