Tonsillitis (Strep Throat) Symptoms and Home Remedies

Tonsillitis is a grave infection of the tonsils, which are a paired lymph gland tissue, located on the back side of throat. Tonsils stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies and as such, prevent the body against infections.

Tonsillitis is generally characterized by severe throat ache, fever, and swollen tonsils with a white coat of pus. Strep throat has symptoms similar to that of tonsils, but the pus laden white patches on the tonsils are a typical feature of tonsillitis. So, if you have got white dots on your tonsils, it is tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis is generally caused by viral infection in younger kids and bacterial infection leads to the disease in older kids and adults. The affliction is commonly seen in kids between five to ten years of age.Tonsillitis can be cured by medication as well as basic home remedies. Voltaire says, “The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease”. So, here are some of the natural home remedies to cure Tonsillitis.

The remedies can be two-fold, namely throat relief remedies and affliction cure remedies.

Throat Relief Remedies

The remedies given below will provide instant relief for throat inflammation.

  • The consumption of lots of liquid, ice-cream, frozen yogurt to relieve the throat.
  • Consuming juices of carrot, cucumber, and beet will sooth your throat.
  • A mixture of a teaspoon each of honey and lemon is recommended for gradual relief.
  • Avoid consuming carbonated drinks and alcohols which aggravate throat inflammation.
  • Gargling with warm water mixed with two teaspoons of onion juice or ginger juice, twice a day is particularly recommended
  • The application of a home-made ointment of mustard, horseradish seeds, some jute seeds, flax seeds, barley, and radish seeds will provide relief.

Affliction Cure Remedies

These remedies will gradually cure the disease and restore the lymph gland tissue to its normal functions.

  • The infected person must be kept in a warm atmosphere.
  • The intake of a paste of roots of white pea in water every morning is an effective home remedy.
  • The application of a paste of dry figs helps in reducing the swelling in your throat.
  • Consuming of a glass full of milk for three consecutive nights is advisable to cure the disease.
  • The use of a natural mouthwash, made by boiling the herb Solanum Xanthocarpum in water also provides relief.

These are the natural remedies to cure tonsillitis, but remember, prevention is always better than cure. So, every effort must be made to avert the occurrence of this disease. Tonsillitis is a communicable disease and as such, precautions must be taken to avoid direct contact with afflicted people. Hygiene is crucial in averting tonsillitis.
