Get Rid of Chicken Pox Scars

By Patricia | September 9, 2009

Chicken pox scars are some of the most difficult scars to treat and would take more than just a few years to heal on their own. There is no home remedy that will be completely effective and the fastest remedy that you can undertake is the use of laser therapy. This will eliminate the scars completely and in a matter of minutes. If, however, you do not want to go through laser therapy then you would have to perform an exfoliation regime everyday for a year at least before you see any visible changes. This of course depends on whether the chicken pox sores were intact or if they were burst or broken open.

How To Get Rid Of It?

Scars are a product of the skin quickly trying to lay down tissue to seal a wound where there was a rupture. Skin is primarily made up of collagen – a protein that is fibrous. Scars look the way they do because the priority for the body is to seal the wound as fast as possible and not to try to match the consistency of the surrounding skin. This is not to imply that that scars are a permanent fixture. This is because of the very nature of skin tissue. Skin is probably the only organ in the body that is continuously regenerating itself. Skin cells are continuously being generated in the epidermis and move up in layers until it reaches the open air. By the time it reaches the open air, the skin is already dead and acts as a perfect seal to younger layers of skin below. In scar tissue, the younger layers of skin are usually of the normal skin consistency and all that is really required of you is to remove the dead skin as it rises to the top. Lasers are especially potent at saving you time in dealing with scars. Lasers work on the principle that if controlled damage is done to scar tissue at a microscopic level, the body will then regenerate and heal the wounds correctly.

Home Remedies

Removing dead skin is a process called exfoliation and can be done at home with the use of an acidic agent and an abrasive. This acidic agent should ideally be a solution of salicylic acid but you could also use lemon juice that is freshly squeezed. Apply the salicylic acid or the lemon juice to your face and wait for a minute before applying the abrasive to your face. The abrasive should be a medium that causes a mild sandpapering effect. This is best achieved using sugar or salt. After the exfoliation, apply some moisturizer to the area so your skin does not dry out.
