A piece of Chicken is stuck in the throat of my husband, we already tried drinking water, bread and throwing up and it is still there, any suggestion please?

To be completely honest, if you have tried swallowing and vomiting and your husband still feels that there is something stuck in his throat then it is probably time to go visit a doctor. You should probably consider the possibility that something else is wrong with your husband as there is no way that a soft piece of chicken could be jammed in the food pipe and not getting dislodged even with vomiting. Most throat obstructions that can happen from swallowing food usually involve swallowing a fishbone. This will end up resulting in the fishbone getting lodged in the flesh. To remove this, you would need to swallow some hard food in the hope that it does come loose and if this does not work, then the only hope is to go to the emergency room to remove the obstruction.

When food is being swallowed, there is a complex play between the muscles of the tongue and the nervous system. The chewing action is in fact the only voluntary part of the system while the entire process of swallowing food by pushing it into the pharynx, the closing of the epiglottis, and the movement of the bolus into the esophagus are all completely out of one’s control. The loss of teeth will definitely have an effect on the size of the bolus that is swallowed; however, the fact that the swallowing action has been lost in some way is also of some concern. There are diseases in which this happens like Achalasia in which the esophageal sphincter does not open. This results in the food getting stuck in the esophagus and eventually in a reflex vomiting reaction. The loss of peristaltic movement degrading is usually also a sign of some kinds of diseases like Alzheimer’s disease in which there is a degradation of the nerves.

Dealing with the problem at hand is something that you should do by visiting the doctor and performing an endoscopy. This is a diagnostic procedure in which a tube is inserted into the mouth and forced into the esophagus. There will be a camera at the end of the tube which will allow the doctor to check if there is anything wrong in the esophagus. The tube might even be sent down to the esophageal sphincter to check for the accumulation of food in the food pipe as Achalasia can sometimes manifest in these very same symptoms.
