Ear Fluid Casues | Treatment: Home Remedy For Fluid In Middle Air

By Patricia | May 21, 2009

The condition that you have described is possibly caused by the middle ear disease called Otitis Media with effusion. This is a disease that is caused by an infection and is also called Serous Otitis Media. In most cases, this condition is caused by a viral infection that has caused the collection of fluid in the spaces where there should be air instead. This also probably causes a certain amount of hearing impairment as well.

The mechanism of the ear is such that it actually can be equated to a drum which has one end in the outside world and the other in a hollow casing. Air pressure between the two halves being equal is the key to hearing properly. This is sometimes why after swallowing for a bit you tend to hear a bit better. Otitis media is usually a disease that strikes children with as many as a few attacks in the space of a few years and usually follows after an upper respiratory tract infection. The progression of the condition usually follows from an acute form of the disease, which is usually resolved with antibiotics or by a surgical procedure in which an incision is made to the eardrum to drain it of any accumulated pus. After the acute form of the condition is cured, sometimes there might be a leftover accumulation of fluid and this causes the fluid accumulation. This fluid accumulation should drain by a tube that goes from the middle ear to the throat. However, if this does not happen because of an inflammation, antihistamines are sometimes prescribed. Surgically, the treatment of the chronic stage is done by creating an incision on the eardrum and running a tube to the middle ear for proper ventilation to occur. Over a period of time, the condition usually corrects itself and hearing returns to normal.

The only possible way that fluid could drain from the middle ear if not by a surgical method would be the use of heavy anti-inflammation remedies. Frankly, this might be problem considering that most home remedies are usually a low dosage or a weaker substitute, which is not going to be of much effect to a chronic fluid accumulation problem. For the pain that you are undergoing you can try some remedies like ginger and clove added to food. Also, try pouring some warm mustard oil into your ear for a few minutes to alleviate any pain.
