Benefits of Yoga for Scoliosis

Naukasana (Boat pose) and Trikonasana (Triangle pose) are very good poses or asanas for treating scoliosis. Other effective poses are Halasana (Plow Pose),Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) and Matsayasana (Fish Pose).

‘Iyenagar Yoga’ is the best-suited yoga for scoliosis and is practiced by millions across the globe to get rid of the back pain due to scoliosis. This is not a very rigorous form of yoga, is slow paced and helps with toning and strengthening of pelvic, back, abdominal and spine muscles.

It is very important to know where your concavity of curve is. Practice poses that help to stretch out the concavity, strengthen the convexity and de-rotate the spine. The yoga should be done under a professional supervision. Your instructor can even manipulate certain poses and provide you with the alternative pose to suit your body. So depending on the severity of your condition and your body’s strength and flexibility, the poses can be tailored for you.
