Anger Management With Meditation

Anger is a basic human emotion. It is a negative emotion that can destroy health, environments and relationships. Since the repercussions of unreasonable anger are very great, anger control is essential for a normal and balanced life.

In your everyday life you must try and focus on all that is positive in your life and not dwell on the irritants and the negative situations. By shifting your focus, you will find that you are happier. In a happier state of mind, you will be less prone to anger. Meditation helps us a great deal in managing anger and leading a life of calm awareness.

How Meditation Helps Manage Anger

You must practice meditation regularly for twenty minutes twice everyday. This would help you to develop the calmness that helps to control negative emotions like anger, fear and depression.

During meditation you sit quietly and comfortably with your eyes closed and breathe normally without straining yourself. You become aware of how you breathe, and feel your breath coming and going. You allow your mind to go blank and do not focus on anything. As your thoughts come and go it’s possible that you do not dwell on the disturbing thoughts. Slowly your mind relaxes and your nerves calm down. You go into deep relaxation, an almost dream like state. You may even fall asleep. You do not restrain yourself in any way. Your breath slows down and you feel a calmness and peace enter your being. You come out of the meditative state slowly.

Meditation has an effect on your physical body. It reduces hypertension and stress and improves your blood circulation, leading to a healthier body. This makes you happy and less prone to anger. The effect it has on your mind is one of relaxation. The mind shifts from a ‘distressed’ zone to one of ‘acceptance’. It also makes you more reflective. You get to understand your inner being better. As you go deeper within yourself, you grow quieter, compassionate and more spiritual. This state of being then prevents anger from forming and you respond rather than react to any kind of aggravation. Long term meditation can have extra-ordinary effects on the mind and body. It can make you so peaceful that you are still and calm in the face of intense provocation and nothing ruffles your feathers.

Meditation has been an integral part of ancient spiritual practices like Yoga. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Transcendental Meditation, Chakra Meditation are some of the different types of meditation in practice today.
