Submitted by Kevin Pederson on December 31, 2009

The fast paced life you live can leave you feeling drained. Today, with the kind of lifestyle we have, stress is mounting and exposing us to many life threatening diseases and disorders. When so much is at stake, it is important to manage stress so that its effects are kept at bay.
Fortunately there are easy stress management tips that you can practice while you are on the go. However, you need to understand that managing stress may involve changing a lot of things that you are used to, including a major part of your lifestyle. Techniques to get stress relief not only help you control the levels of stress you experience, but also make you feel happier and more positive.
The first step towards managing stress is to acknowledge it. Be prepared to fight stress and your body will naturally react to it energetically. You will feel yourself more charged when a burst of energy becomes your body’s natural response to stress. Stress can in fact be used to your advantage, to give you a push when you really need it.
Ever heard the idiom ‘misery loves company’? Just like misery, stress too loves company. People who are stressed have a tendency to either pass it on or completely bum others around them. Though not always possible, try as much as you can to keep a distance from those who are stressed out and are in a bad mood. When you know that a colleague or a friend is stressed, it is best to maintain your distance.
Start a workout. Exercising makes a person happier because of the release of endorphins. Endorphins are mood lifting chemicals that help improve your state of mind and have a calming affect. Exercising also takes your mind off your troubles and helps you tone up, making you feel more confident.
Meditation can also help you calm down. It also helps improve your concentration.
When you feel especially stressed, try to relax yourself. Everyone has a different way of doing this. Some people like to indulge in a hobby, some meet with their friends and socialize and there are others who listen to music. However, there is one relaxing technique that can help anyone and that is deep breathing. Deep breathing can cause the muscles to expand and relax. This helps relieve physical stress and produces a calming affect. This way you can also slow down your heart beat and help yourself relax.
Another effective remedy is to consciously remove any negative thoughts from your mind. Most of the time stress is caused because you worry about things that may or may not happen. If you are presented with a problem, think of it rationally instead of panicking and stressing yourself out.
