...that the runner tends to lean forward whereas in other running styles the runner may run upright. Many a times, runners tend to try and develop the best running style by simply imitating those runners who were known for their excellent running style and technique. However in doing so, it would be wise to remember that one would not be developing an effective running style, which most suits the individual. Running style is basically defined by how high the runner raises his knees, whether he crosses his arms in front of his body while running and other such physical characteristics. One of the key elements of correct running styles is the foot strike or the touchdown which basically refers to how the foot of the individual makes contact with the ground while landing. In some runners, they tend to land on the balls of their feet whereas in other runners their running technique is such that they land on their heels whereas still others are flat footed. One of the key elements to ensure that one has a safe landing as part of their running style is to paw back which is the term given to the movement wherein the individual is required to bring their foot back just before it makes contact with the ground. Some additional tips to keep in mind while developing the best running style suitable for the individual is to run as near to the ground as possible, run with short steps , avoid splaying ones feet and also try and lift the knees sufficiently high well in advance. Incorporating the correct running technique into ones running style is essential as are the right type of running shoes as a good running technique is very useful in preventing costly and painful injuries. One should always reviews their stride, shoes and posture from time to time so as to better their ability to run longer and better. One of the elements of a good running technique is to keep pones head erect as far as possible and to keep the eyes focused on a point on the ground a few feet ahead of the individual.
