Inner, Outer Ear Wax (Cerumen) Removal

The possible reason that the skin is dry right now is some kind of inflammation in the ear. Normally, the ear should be well protected by a layer of earwax or Cerumen. The first task would be to reduce the inflammation and infection in the ear first and then use substitute oil that will help moisturize the skin in the ear.

In case you regularly clear the earwax out of your ears using cotton swabs, this is the first thing that has to stop. Cotton swabs are quite inefficient at cleaning out the ears. This is because all they tend to do is to either push the wax further inside or remove just the outermost layer of wax. Incidentally, in the normal biological process, there is already a mechanism available to remove earwax and that is the simple action of moving the jaw or chewing. This dislodges the wax closest to the eardrum and pushes it forward. New wax comes in its place and a mini “conveyor belt” of wax is built up and pushed out. In some people, the formation of Cerumen is probably excessive and the use of cotton swabs stops the conveyor belt action of natural removal and bunches up the wax in one place. In your case, the first step is to restore the balance in the ear by eliminating any infection. For this purpose, pour some warm tea tree oil into you ear. This might not be very comfortable but tea tree oil is a very powerful antimicrobial and can kill off bacteria, viruses and fungi. Disinfect both ears on a daily basis this way. You might even notice that some of the wax might even be coming out in the drained oil.

Once you have finished disinfecting and the pain subsides, try using a lotion that contains aloe in it to protect the skin in the outer ear from further infections. This can be continued for a few days and the next step is to moisturize the skin of the ear. One of the best natural moisturizing lotions is olive oil. Olive oil is skin-friendly monounsaturated oil that it is often used as an effective shaving medium. Warm some extra virgin olive oil, pour it into your ear, and let it remain there to be absorbed by the skin. After about ten minutes spent performing this moisturizing in both ears, drain the oil and wipe the outside of your ear with a cloth. Do not try to remove oil in the ear by sticking in a cotton swab.
