Benefits and Steps of Apan Vayu Mudra

Mudras are specific hand gestures in yoga that are used to balance the elements in the body and channel them in the proper direction in order to fulfill a specific purpose. The Apan Vayu Mudra is also called the Mrita Sanjeevani Mudra.

It is a very powerful Mudra and in ancient India it was considered to be a life saver in case of a heart attack.

Steps:

  1. Sit down comfortably in the Padma Asana (Lotus Pose) or any other suitable posture. Breathe gently through your nostrils.
  2. Now touch the tips of the middle and ring fingers to the tip of your thumb. Your little finger should point straight out.

  3. This Mudra should be held for a period of ten to fifteen minutes.

Benefits:

  • The Apan Vayu Mudra is supposed to be very beneficial for the heart.
  • People with a history of cardiac ailments should practice this Mudra on a regular basis.
  • The benefits of the Apan Vayu Mudra also extend to those who suffer from gastric problems such as heartburn and indigestion.
