Since medication is best avoided during pregnancy and even when is fast gaining popularity among midwives and childbirth experts who breastfeeding, there is a need for new and natural forms of treatment for a range of pregnancy problems. The latest buzzword in the field of pregnancy and early childcare is light touch craniosacral therapy or CST. This form of therapy prefer a holistic approach to treatment and maternity care.

What is Light Touch Craniosacral Therapy?

CST focuses on the craniosacral system that includes the brain, spinal cord, and the membranes that surround both along with the craniosacral fluid that exists within the membranes. The functioning of the entire craniosacral system exerts a steady rhythm all over the body and it is this rhythm that craniosacral therapy aims to manipulate. A trained craniosacral therapist is attuned to the constant rhythm of the draining and refilling of the craniosacral fluid throughout the membranes, bones, and tissues. A craniosacral therapist will first assess the body for any signs of constraint or immobility. As the therapist gently touches and massages the soft connective tissue and fascia that supports the entire body, tension gradually releases and healing takes place. Through light touch and pressure on specific points and areas, the body uses its own capacity to heal itself and improve overall mental, emotional and physical health. The main advantage of light touch CST is its non-invasive nature and the absence of any side effects or complications. A typical session of CST lasts between forty minutes to an hour at a time (though this may be shorter for babies and young children) and leaves the patient with a deep sense of relaxation and overall wellbeing.
