Yoga Equipment

Before beginning practices it's not a bad idea to familiarize oneself with the basic equipment one normally encounters in Yoga class: Yoga equipment includes the following:

  • Yoga clothes
  • Yoga shoes
  • Yoga straps
  • Yoga mats
  • Yoga blocks
  • Yoga bolsters
  • Yoga ropes
  • Yoga backbending benches
  • Yoga heartblocks
  • Yoga calf stretchers
  • Yoga sandbags
  • Yoga blankets
  • Yoga books, videos, CDs & DVDs
  • Yoga seats for back ease
  • Yoga Neti pots
  • Yoga mat carry bag
  • Yoga Shoulderstand benches
  • Yoga forward benders
  • Yoga inversion slings
  • Yoga heatstanders
  • Yoga mat rolls
  • Yoga meditation cushions

There is a large demand for all these equipments ever since Sri B.K.S

Iyengar introduced the use of Yoga props

Ever since, the demand has only been growing

And with increasing numbers of people taking up Yoga everyday, a lot of manufacturers and stores have started coming up with newer and newer improvements and developments So much so that there are drastic changes and alterations in almost all Yoga equipment, from Yoga clothes to meditation cushions.

Are these Yoga equipments mandatory? One might very well ask, but the question is really relative True, there are those who have been practising Yoga since time immemorial without the use of any equipment or props – just the barest of clothing and a rudimentary mat spread out on a rough floor But times have changed – and we all have to keep up with the times.  So a lot of people feel the need for this equipment nowadays.

Besides, a lot of need has been generated by the market. So much so that, today, a number of Yoga institutes, centers and studios only admit students if the conform to basic rules that include purchase of basic equipment and props. So there you are. The point is, you can still do without.
