Yoga for Hypothyroid

I am suffering from Hypothyroid, high BP and spondylolysis. I know how to perform yoga exercises. Can you suggest some practice in combination, for these ailments?

Thyroid problems are quite common in this current generation and yoga shows considerable results in the treatment of the same. It helps to balance the thyroid functions in the body and helps to regulate the same.

Yoga involves providing all basic stretches and strains to the body and these exercises help the body to be comfortable with the exercises like pranayam and energy locking mechanism. Various mudras (gestures) of yoga work on the principle of acupressure which helps to provide relief to several bodily organs. The breathing exercises of Yoga helps in purification of the body internally and also assists one to meditate and become free from negative thoughts.

If you have multiple diseases you need to be extra careful while taking any medications. The yoga postures specifically designed for various ailments and these exercises should be used in unison to have great results on the body. You should always start with simple exercises of yoga like shavasana (corpse pose), padmasana (lotus position) which gives the feeling of comfort and relaxation to the individual. Once you have a good command over the breath control exercises and relaxation techniques you can shift to other complicated postures of yoga.

Yoga helps in internal cleansing of the body and provides self massage with the stretch and strains at the time of exercises. The thyroid gland secretes thyroxin which helps in metabolism of the body. If the secretion of thyroxin decreases it causes hypo thyroid ailment. It causes eye inflammation and goiter. Yoga treatment can be practiced to cure the thyroid disorder in the human body. Surya namaskar (sun salutation) provides exercise to all the organs of the body and provides a complete exercise. Sarvangasana (all member pose) also provides proper tone to all the organs of the body. Matsyasana (fish pose) also provides exercise to the upper organs of the body so as to regulate the secretion of thyroxin for the appropriate growth of the body.

Shoulder stand posture of Yoga is highly recommended for the ailments of hypothyroid. All breathing exercises of yoga provide the appropriate oxygenated blood to the neck region near the thyroid gland. It increases the secretion of thyroxin which helps in weight reduction as well as provides perfect treatment to the hypo thyroid ailment. It also increases the circulation of the blood in the leg region which increases the metabolism of the body and at the same time increases the circulation of the blood along with sufficient oxygen to various organs of the body which provides refreshment to all the organs of the body.
