Asanas for hypothyroid

Yoga must not be used as the primary form of treatment for hypothyroidism without the cinsult of an endocrinologist. It can be used as a supplementary form of technique in addition to the medication you might be advised to take, however it all depends on the exact prescription the doctor advises you. The shoulder stand or the Sarvangasana is one of the most beneficial forms of asanas to deal with hypothyroidism. Sarvangasana has healing properties and is believed to stimulate the thyroid gland thus causing it to normalize. The Shoulder Stand is considered the most effective yoga pose for an underactive thyroid gland. The meaning of Sarvangasana means the entire body.

The constricting, stretching out and twisting of the Yogasanas is thought to help in gently massaging the endocrinal glands. The constant stimulation regulates the function of the endocrine glands thus improving the flow of the blood and nurturing them at the cellular level. Sarvangasana reverses the effects of gravity and causes the blood to flow from the legs and feet in the neck region, where the thyroid glands are located. According to yoga instructors oxygenated blood rushing to the neck region allows the thyroid gland to be nourished and stimulated.
