Yoga poses for hypothyroid

Thyroid system is very important to regulate a person's metabolism. Yoga can have a stimulating and positive effect on the endocrine organs especially thyroid gland. The shoulder stand pose or sarvangasana rejuvenates your entire body and stimulates the underactive thyroid thus holds a special importance for people with hypothyroidism. It also helps to relax the stress areas like neck and lower back.

Sarvangasana – lie flat on your back on a yoga mat. Bring your legs up, beyond and over your head lifting your hips. Now lift your back and move your legs further behind your head. Keep your back and spine straight and move your hand towards your back – arms against the upper back, hands very close to the shoulder blades and elbows slightly apart. Slowly push your back upwards with the help of your hands. Your weight should rest on the back side of the shoulders. Remember not to bend your upper back and chest region. Now lift your legs one at a time and keep your pelvis straight over your back and hands. For this you can bend your legs slightly in forward direction to keep the pelvis straight. Breathe in and out quietly and hold in this position for 30 seconds or till your shoulders starts to relax. Exhale and relax, come back to normal sleeping position slowly and steadily.
