There are many ways that you can start yoga meditation. You can get books, cds, dvds, go to classes and there is a wealth of information online to get you started. The main thing to consider is what type of person are you.

Are you very motivated, do you need some help or do you need a lot of help? If you are an extremely motivated person, then you can probably use an at home regimen that is wholly dependent upon you. If you are type of person that thinks meditation is a good idea but you cannot rely on yourself to keep to a regimen, then you would probably need to go to classes.

For the highly motivated, there is a wealth of information online, in books and on dvds. You can pick and choose the forms that interest you the most. You can take different types of media to put together the regimen (or regimens if you want to change things up) that best suit you. Because you are self motivated, you do not need a lot of guidance. Classes could be limiting for you because you are used to doing things your own way.

For the motivated who are still in need of a little help, you can use books, DVDs and classes as guides. You are motivated to keep up with a regimen but are not sure where to start. This is where you can use the guidance of different media. You can choose the level to start that is most comfortable for you.

For the person who needs a lot of motivation, the best start for you would probably be at classes. You know that you could benefit from meditation, but you are not motivated enough to rely on yourself alone to keep to a regimen.

You can find easy guided meditation exercises online. They come in several different categories: sound, emotions, thoughts, yoga nidra (deep sleep), de-stress and more. You can choose the meditation exercise that is best for the situation.

True meditation is the process of finding the place where you are free of worries and you undergo a change in consciousness that blocks out the rest of the world. Being able to find this place is not necessarily as easy as it sounds. You need to find a place that is quiet and free of any distractions. You need to be in a place emotionally and mentally that will be conducive to meditating. If you are too wired to be able to calm down, then you may not benefit from trying to meditate. Finding what works best for you will be the key to starting and maintaining a yoga meditation routine.
