How to improve memory and brain power?

In everything you do, memory is fundamental. So, to develop your personality and master the life skills that are important, memory training is vital. Having a good memory can help increase your efficiency and boost your confidence at work. Also, in your social life, it can help greatly with developing your communication skills and make your life organized. If you feel that you have a poor memory and are not able to focus properly, there are many ways you could use on how to increase and improve your memory power, concentration, and focus. Gradually, you will be able to remember quantities of information you thought impossible. The first step you should take in trying to improve your memory is to stay positive and believe that you will improve your memory. There are many individuals who just accept that they have a bad memory and feel that they just can’t handle remembering names and numbers. However, these kinds of thoughts should be erased, and you should diligently strive to improve your memory.

It is also essential that you exercise your brain as it causes the formation of new connections of the nerves that will help with your memory. There are many ways to activate your brain, like solving puzzles and learning a new instrument. Every day, you could do some puzzles like Sudoku, crosswords, and games. These activities are effective ways on how to improve memory and brain power. You should also add an exercise program to your daily activities as it helps improve the circulation of blood throughout the body and can prevent memory loss, which can come with old age. Exercising also keeps you more relaxed and alert, hence improving the uptake of your memory.

Too much of stress can actually physically damage the brain and can make the task of remembering things more difficult. The hypothalamus recognizes the stressful situations and signals it to the pituitary gland. Then, the adrenocorticotropic hormone will be secreted that causes adrenaline to be secreted by the adrenal glands, and later, the hormone cortisol or corticosteroids. The corticosteroids make the blood-brain barrier weak, and the hippocampus will become damaged. The hormone that the hypothalamus releases is controlled by the hippocampus. When there is too much stress there will be the deterioration of the hippocampus, and the efficiency of regulating the corticosteroids will be reduced, thereby hampering memory. Therefore, it is essential that you completely get rid of stress from your life.

To improve your memory it is also essential that you follow a proper diet. There are many herbal supplements that are available in the market that make claims to improve your memory. However, their efficiency has not yet been shown in clinical tests. Instead, you should follow a healthy diet that will make your brain healthier and eat foods that contain antioxidants like berries, spinach, blueberries, and broccoli. You could provide your brain with supplements like vitamin B6, niacin, vitamin E, and thiamin. Eating five to six meals that are smaller is considered to have a better effect on mental functioning than consuming three large meals.

You could also follow some tips on how to increase and improve your concentration and memory power as well as attention span. An important tip on how to boost your memory power is to pay attention to what you want to remember. Around eight seconds of focus is necessary to put into memory a piece of information. If you tend to get distracted easily, try to find a quite place to receive the information. Another valuable tip on how to improve memory power and the amount of information is to make use of as many senses as you can. Even if you tend to learn with visuals, read the information you want to remember out loud. If you can rhythmically recite it, it will be even better. You could try to relate the information to tastes, smells, textures, and colors. Even just writing the information on a piece of paper will be effective in putting the information into your memory. Try to make a connection between what you already know and the new information you need to remember.

Organizing information can be very beneficial in improving memory, concentration, and focus. Make it a habit to note things down in calendars, date books, or address books. You could take down notes for material that is more complex and later put them into categories. Make use of both pictures and words to learn the information. In the case of material that is complex, try to understand the basic ideas instead of trying to put into memory details that are isolated. You should be capable of explaining the information to someone else in your own words. A useful tip on improving reading comprehension is to do a research on the topic. Try to understand what type of text it is and what you expect to learn.
