Snoring occurs when there is an obstruction to your airway while sleeping. This most commonly occurs when the soft tissue inside the throat relax and obstruct the air passage. Smokers and overweight persons are especially prone to snoring. Consumption of alcohol can also lead to snoring.

While snoring can prove to be irritating to those around you, it can also be an indication of a more serious problem called sleep apnea. In fact, snoring can be one of the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. Some of the other symptoms associated with sleep apnea include feeling drowsy throughout the day, inability to concentrate, headaches, and vision problems. If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to significant problems over a period of time and can decrease the quality of your life. So it is imperative that you get yourself checked if you have been experience any of the symptoms above in addition to the snoring.

Yoga can also help you to deal with snoring. Some of the yoga poses that are considered to be effective in the treatment of snoring include the Roaring Lion Pose or SimhaGarjana Asana and the Hissing Breath of Ujjayi Pranayama. Do consult a yoga teacher who will be able to best guide you towards the asanas that are the most appropriate for your condition.
