How can hair fall be reduced through yoga?

There are many of us who suffer from severe hair loss and yoga could offer an effective solution to the problem. As surprising as it sounds, hair fall and yoga could be a way to combat hair loss.Practicing yoga to rein in hair loss may seem absurd, but it is in fact not so farfetched. Hair loss can occur in both men and women due to several reasons. These include stress, genetics, hormonal changes, chemicals used on the hair and so on. There isn’t really a direct link between hair fall andY yoga, but yoga can cure hair fall as it can help to eliminate or help a person to deal with the stress in their liveshelps reduce stress levels. Yoga is very beneficial in reducing stress in one’s life. If the cause of hair fall is stress, then yoga can help significantly. Yoga postures can help one to overcome stress and anxiety and this in turn helps promote hair growth. Certain poses can also increase the circulation of blood to the head. Poor blood circulation in the head can also be a reason for hair loss. Whatever the reason for your problem it is important that you pay attention to your diet and lifestyle to control hair fall and yoga can help facilitate and hasten the process of recovery.

Here are some points to keep in mind while performing yoga to prevent hair fall. Start the day by waking up early and practice Pranayam or the art of yoga breathing. This breathing helps to increase the oxygen levels in the body and increases blood circulation inside the body as well. Do this for about 15-30 minutes daily. Perform the flowing yoga postures to remedy hair fall:-

  • Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog)
  • Pawanmuktasana (Wind Releasing Pose)
  • Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand)
  • Vajrasana ( Diamond Pose)
  • Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)
  • Kapalbharti Pranayam (Frontal lobe cleansing technique)
  • Ustrasana (Camel Pose)
  • Anuloma viloma (Alternative Breathing)
  • Sasangasana (Rabbit Pose)

The postures mentioned above specifically target and enhance the blood circulation in the head and also help to reduce stress levels. Keep in mind that you will need to practice these postures regularly if you wish to see results. Do contact a medical professional before starting any yoga practice. This is more so if you suffer from cardiac problems or blood pressure.

One yoga posture that is effective in arresting hair fall is the Sirsasana or Head stand pose. This pose also helps to increase the blood circulation to the head. This pose is also known as the king of the asanas. Kneel and keep your forearms on the floor.  Interlock your fingers and put your head in this area. Raise your waist as straight as possible. It will help to do this if you move your feet closer to your head. Your body should resemble a triangle shape at this stage. After this try lifting your feet and dragging your knees to your chest. Then slowly raise your legs up. Once the legs are straight and upward, keep them in this position for 10 seconds. End the pose by putting one leg down and then the other. It would be best to consult with a trichologist if you continue to suffer hair loss and yoga practice shows no effects.

Losing your hair can be caused by a number of factors, including genetics and stress. Yoga will not prevent you from losing hair if you are predetermined to lose hair through genetics or other medical condition. However,if the cause of your hair loss is stress, yoga can be very beneficial. Reducing stress is one of the fundamental goals of all yoga styles, so going doing any yoga style may work. If you are a beginner, you may want to try our beginner yoga poses or Hatha yoga, which focuses on poses and basic Sun Salutations. The poses will help eliminate stress in your body, especially if done properly and carefully. After completing the series of poses, you will lie down for Shivasana (resting pose). During Shivanasa, you will meditate and reduce stress in your mind. If you find this mild meditation works well for you, you might want to try full mediation, where you meditate for up to an hour. This can be very beneficial in eliminating stress in your life and making you more peaceful. It has been proven that by eliminating stress hair loss is reduced (but unfortunately, not eliminated). But remember, yoga will not help you grow new hair – only genetics can do that.
