You have mentioned your age and your problem but you have not mentioned how much your weight and height is nor have you stated the cause of your obesity. And why is it that you only want to lose weight on your upper body. Your weight needs to be in proportion and balance all over your body. You also need to check if your weight is in proportion to your height, if it is then you do not need to lose weight you only need to exercise to tone your body and keep it fit and flexible. In case you have a broad bone structure and you are tall as well then it might only appear to you as obesity when it really isn’t the case. Please check these things before you decide to lose weight. Also consult your doctor if you really need to lose weight or just tone your body. Unnecessary weight loss might lead to weakness and other health problems.

Do not try to target yoga only at certain parts of your body. Yoga is meant to be practiced in a systematic way. It works on your entire body as well as your mind. Yoga helps you to balance your weight correctly all over your body in the right proportion. It deeply cleanses and detoxifies your body and that helps you to get rid of unwanted fats. There can be several causes for obesity such as unhealthy or sedentary lifestyle, eating too much of refined and processed foods, consuming excessive sugar, oily and fatty products like cream, cheese, butter, etc. It could also be caused due to a medical condition, side effects of certain medicines, hereditary factors, lack of exercise, etc.

Along with practicing yoga you need to take care of some other general things as well such as having a fixed time for all your meals daily, eat simple home cooked food that is free from extra oil and spice, consume lots of fresh salads, vegetables and fruits, drink lots of water throughout the day and most importantly never overeat. You can join regular yoga classes and practice yoga asanas or poses such as Surya-namaskar or the sun salutation, Paschimottanasana or the forward bend pose, Sarvangasana or the shoulder stand pose, Halasana or the plough pose, Dhanurasana or the bow pose, Virasana or the hero pose, Trikonasana or the triangle pose, Ardha Matsyendrasana or the twist pose, etc.
