Pilates Yoga Poses

A lot of folks are discovering that the core strength and integration they Pilates helps develop support them in their day-to-day activities.

This includes the sports they engage in. For people who also practise Yoga, Pilates provides the required solidity and steadiness to control and expand their Yoga poses safely.

On the other hand, the expansive stretching in Yoga gives an excellent balance to the characteristically more core oriented Pilates exercises.

Both Pilates and Yoga focus on working with breath. Your breath is the major purifier of your body.

And in both systems of workouts you are encouraged to develop conscious breathing. This is done by using a deep full breath to enhance the depth and movement of the exercise.

Yoga has a long custom of working with the breath and has lots of Yogic methods of breathing, which are brought in while doing the Yoga poses (asanas).

It also has a lot of meditative practices which are based on breathing and in Pilates your breath is synchronized particularly so, with the motion of the exercises.

The benefits of Pilates and Yoga are unusual for both are known to support the creation of long, strong, graceful bodies. These bodies are able to move efficiently without creating bulky muscles.

Both Pilates and Yoga are integrative. Both are associated with stress reduction and enhanced well-being.

Both Pilates and Yoga are made use of as rehabilitative systems. Both Pilates and Yoga can be altered for an extensive spectrum of people and fitness levels. Above all both Pilates and Yoga support the attainment of incredibly high levels of body/mind/spirit fitness.

When folks think of Pilates and Yoga, oftentimes they think of Yoga as "spiritual" and Pilates as a rather hedonistic practice. Yoga offers a long tradition of being linked to spiritual practice, or of being a spiritual path in itself. Pilates, on the other hand, may not be in as directly a spiritual context as Yoga, because you are not likely to find meditation or chanting in a Pilates sessions. But the poses and exercises taught by both are extremely beneficial, regardless of all else.
