The Yoga of Action

The Yoga of Action is the path of Karma Yoga.

It is mainly chosen by people with an outgoing nature. The meaning of karma is "action". Karma Yoga therefore means the Yoga of Action and it is said to purify one’s heart.

This it does by teaching us to act selflessly, devoid of any thought of gain or reward. By disengaging oneself from the fruits of one’s actions and surrendering them to the Supreme Self, one learns to sublimate the ego. For this, it is best to keep one’s mind concentrated.

The means prescribe for this is to repeat or chant a mantra while engaging in any activity.

Based on the concept of action or selfless service, Karma Yoga represents everything that we are not conscious of. Karma is that which we do not fully comprehend, or nor see for what they are. Things are hardly ever experienced for what they really are. Bon the contrary, we experience them for what we consider them to be. However, the Universal Law of Karma states that good deeds beget good results and evil deeds are the cause of evil results. The motive is everything. You never suffer for unintended evil actions and, likewise, you are rewarded for good intentions.

However, Karma Yoga does not lay any emphasis on tracking good and bad deeds on the contrary, the stress is on detachment. The emphasis, in the Yoga of Action, is on deeds performed with full attention upon the here and now. The Yoga of Action is wisdom in work and action. As a Yogi you will learn to see, experience, and confront everything with wide-eyed awareness. You will come to see things as they are, never judgmentally. Nothing becomes attractive or repulsive, they simply are. The Karma Yogi creates no future Karmas. The Karma Yogi just lives with actions marked by poise of body, mind and spirit.
