The Immune SystemIn our bodies there are rich sources of life-giving chemicals.
These are the antibodies, adrenaline, so on and so forth. When we require any of them, we nowadays get them externally by way of pills, serums or injections. Then again, if we learn to revitalize the specific system that generates these chemicals in our bodies, we can produce them within ourselves.
This is what Yoga helps us to accomplish.
Take the example of adrenalin, for instance, a patient suffering from asthma can produce his / her own adrenalin. Just by practising a single Yoga pose called Shashankasana (hare pose) the individual can be rid of a lot of problems. The patient simply sits on the feet, bends forward, places the forehead and arms on the floor then relaxes in this position for 10 -15 minutes.
This is how Mohammedans squat during their prayers (Namaz).
In Shashankasana (hare pose) the adrenal glands get reactivated, they secrete more adrenalin. In a short while the attack passes off. This is particularly effective if practised early in an attack. Meaning to say, as soon as the asthma patient realizes that respiratory congestion is starting to happen. The patient is himself / herself able to tell very well when he / she an attack is going to come. The condition starts to get worse from the morning, and he/ she starts to experience heaviness in the region of the chest. However, if the patient practises this posture he / she immediately begins to feel better.
How does Shashankasana (hare pose) help resolve the respiratory congestion problem, you may ask. By increasing the secretion of adrenaline. All asthma patients are aware of the fact that if they suffer an attack and go to the doctor, the doctor will gives them a shot of adrenaline. However, with Shashankasana, they generate it themselves.
This is only in the case of asthma. Further, by practising the specific Yoga poses, the different endocrine glands get stimulated. They, in their turn, influence not just the body, but even the mind. Emotions like anxiety, fear and anger, can be also controlled through Yoga practices. Subsequently the whole immune system gets stronger and so does the whole body-mind syndrome, improving overall health. |
