No matter how unusual it may sound to most of us, mall walking is a concept that has been coming up and followed by a lot of people. You will be surprised to know that a lot of people open their malls rather early for mall walkers to come and walk. Mall walking is a form of exercise wherein, rather than walking or jogging in a park or anywhere outside, people walk in the corridors of malls. So mall walkers are normal people like you and me who opt to take their walks in a mall rather than anywhere outside. The mall walking distance is usually a lot because the corridors and passages of these malls are pretty long. The reasons for this concept emerging are many. People do not have to bother about the changing climatic conditions such as rain, snowfall, heat and so on. Moreover, there is no traffic on the roads that they need to cross or any such obstruction that will disrupt their walk. In areas that experience heavy traffic congestion, walking indoors also spares you the exposure to pollution. Also, a major reason for mall walking is because of access to restrooms when the need arises. A number of malls are now having mall walker programs that have several other benefits and they are provided with discounts, medical checkup and so on.

A lot of mall owners are opening up to this concept because they have a number of advantages of doing so. These walks happen early morning so there is no question of overcrowding as there is no one at that hour except for owners opening their stores or cleaning stores. Moreover, the concept of mall walking provides a great deal of publicity to the stores. In addition, some of the people may opt to wait longer after their walks and shop or hangout at the food courts in the malls which in turn promotes business for the mall. However, there are a few drawbacks to mall walking. No matter how long the corridors are, they have a limited space and therefore, someone walking for a long time will end up passing the same corridors again and again thus, it does get very monotonous. Mall walkers generally have less focus on speed and thus, a person wanting to walk at a fast pace may end up feeling out of place. Despite all these facts, walking is a great form of exercise and it is particularly important to keep yourself healthy and fit. So as long as you are walking, doesn't matter where you are.
