Quarry on height

(November 12, 2007)

hi, this is zehra from karachi pakistan and my age is 20 and my height is 4`7`` my question is that is there any chance to increase my height if yes please tell me

This is a common question. People do not generally grow much beyond the age of 18 or 19.  In some rare cases, men have been known to grow up until age 20.  To this end, if you are interested to see what height you are likely to become, look to your family. Since height is a result of genetics, you are likely to be of similar height as family members. This is particularly true when you look at family members of the same sex.

Yoga therefore, cannot help you grow. What yoga may be able to do for you is unlock tension in your back and spine, therefore allowing you to stand up straighter and gain a centimeter or two to your overall height. Try spinal twists, bridge pose and thread the needle pose. Make sure to take care when doing these poses if you are new to yoga. Also, you may benefit from some standing poses, such as tree pose and prayer pose. Be aware of how straight you are standing or else you will not receive any benefit at all. All these poses will help relieve tension in your spine and help you stand taller, giving the appearance of being taller than you actually are.
