You need to find out what is the cause of your high blood pressure and then treat it accordingly. Yoga will help of course as it works on both your body and mind making you feel calm and relaxed so your blood pressure will stay in control.
High blood pressure is when there is extra pressure in your system and it can occur due to several reasons such as excessive stress and tension, anxiety, certain medicines, etc. The first step that you need to take towards treating your high blood pressure is to stay calm under all circumstances. Taking stress and worrying will make your problem worse as it will raise your blood pressure unnecessarily. So try and do things that keep you happy and peaceful every time you feel your blood pressure is going high. Think about an instance that makes you happy, recollect a funny moment in your mind, talk to some one who makes you feel better, listen to your favorite music, etc. If your blood pressure is going high due to certain medicines then you need to talk to your doctor and inform him about the same. Your doctor will change your medicines accordingly.
To learn yoga systematically it would be better to join a regular yoga class where you can tell the yoga instructor about your high blood pressure so he would take care to teach you specific asanas or postures that would be beneficial for you. Yoga needs to be learnt in the correct manner for it to be effective. Dhyana or meditation will be very beneficial to you, as it will help you to remain peaceful in all situations. It will help you to focus and stay calm and will thus help to keep your blood pressure normal. After the Dhyana or meditation you can start with the Pranayama or meditation, as this will help you to correct your breathing pattern and that will in turn help you to keep your blood pressure normal. The slow deep breathing exercises will automatically help to calm you down and remain in a peaceful mood. You can practice the following yoga asanas or postures to keep your blood pressure normal:
Sukhasana or the easy pose during meditation, Bidalasana or the cat pose, Ardha Matsyendra asana or the Half Spinal Twist, Pavanamuktasana or the Wind Relieving Pose and the Anulom Vilom or the alternate nostril breathing exercise.
