My father(Age

Your father is 65 and it would really depend on how physically fit he is to do the yoga asanas. High blood pressure occurs due to several reasons such as unhealthy lifestyle, stress, tension, lack of rest, excessive consumption of alcohol, smoking, metabolic disorders, obesity, excessive consumption of tea and coffee and other caffeinated beverages, over use of certain strong medicines, etc.

Your father needs to stop taking stress and worrying completely. Try and keep him occupied with things he likes to do such as reading, listening to his favorite music, going for walks, etc. These things will keep him happy and will automatically bring his stress levels down and prevent high blood pressure. Besides this make sure that he eats healthy and stays away from processed foods and avoids too much of oil and spice. And also ensure that he drinks enough water throughout the day. Besides this you can ask him to practice the meditation or Dhyana as it will help him a lot and he can also practice the pranayama or the breathing exercises as that will help to correct his breathing pattern and will thus normalize his blood pressure.

For the best long lasting results you should get him enrolled in a regular yoga class for seniors. This will help him to learn the yoga asanas or postures under the guidance of a well qualified instructor who will take care to see that he learns the asanas or postures that are appropriate for his age and he can do them comfortably. This will also help him to interact with other members of his age and that it will keep him feeling great and motivated to practice yoga regularly. The asanas or postures that he can safely practice are Sukha asana or the easy pose while meditating, Bidal asana or the cat pose, Adho mukha shvana asana or the downward facing dog pose, Ardha Matsyendrasana or the Half Spinal Twist, Salabha asana or the Locust Pose, Pavana mukta asana or the Wind Relieving Pose. He can also practice the Breathing exercises like Anulom Vilom or the alternate nostril breathing as this will help to correct his breathing pattern and will bring about a sense of peace and calm. And Kapalbhati or the breath of fire that will help to clear out the arterial blockages as this powerful breathing exercise will improve the blood circulation to each and every part of his body.
