Yoga For Diabetes

These days with the growing popularity of yoga as an alternative treatment option, many people are regularly practicing yoga for diabetes management, control and cure. Practicing yoga regularly not only lowers the risk of diabetes but also helps in curing the condition completely. The yoga asanas for diabetes concentrate on stretching, relaxing and meditation exercises which are beneficial for diabetes sufferers. One of the best yoga asanas for diabetes is the Surya Namaskar (sun salutation). This asana improves the blood circulation to various parts of the body and also improves the administration of insulin in an individual’s body. This asana should be practiced at a slow speed for at least 4 rounds a minute to gain all its benefits. The Paschimotasana (seated forward bend pose) is another one of the good yoga poses for diabetes. This yoga pose provides stimulation to internal organs like the pancreas, kidney and liver and is therefore beneficial for patients of diabetes. This asana should be repeated at least 2-3 times everyday. The Mayurasana (peacock pose) involves lying on the stomach and lifting the entire body above the ground with support from only the palms till the body is parallel to the ground.

Experts recommend regularly performing this asana in yoga for diabetes prevention as it helps in toning the pancreas, liver and kidneys. It is also beneficial in improving digestion and curing stomach disorders. Many people also practice Shalabhasana (locust pose) in yoga for diabetes cure. Excess glucose levels in the blood can be regulated by practicing this asana everyday. This asana is also good for treating indigestion, acidity and nervous tension.

Some of the other beneficial yoga asanas for diabetes include:

  • Bhujangasana (serpent pose)
  • Ardha-matsyendrasana (spinal twist)
  • Halasana (plough pose)
  • Sarvangasana (shoulder stand)
  • Dhanurasana (bow pose).

It is very important to understand the relationship between yoga and diabetes so that you can prevent as well as cure this condition. Regular practice of yoga not only helps you stay away from health problems but also keeps your mind calm and peaceful. In addition to practicing yoga for diabetes natural remedies prepared at home can also be helpful. Regular consumption of half cup bitter gourd juice is very effective for treating diabetes. Almonds and fenugreek seeds soaked overnight and consumed on an empty stomach in the morning are a great remedy for diabetes. Soya beans, Indian gooseberry, grape juice, ginger, garlic and onions are also very good for diabetes cure.
