Treatment for Skin Discoloration using Home Remedies

The brand that you are using seems to indicate that it contains the active ingredient hydroquinone. This is one of the most effective treatments for skin discoloration or for skin whitening. If you are experiencing dark spots (also called liver spots) now, then there is a possibility that you have been overusing this treatment or your exposure to the sun is just too much for medication to rectify.

Liver spots are also known as age spots, and this is probably a more accurate term as well, because liver spots are an indication that your skin is aging and your skin’s ability to repair itself has reduced. This situation can happen if your diet was not correct, you expose yourself to the sun too much, or have been using face products excessively. To rectify the current problem, you have two options: with the first option, you should try another type of skin bleacher and the second option is cosmetic surgery. Try using bleach that contains the active ingredient Tretinoin instead of your current formulation. Tretinoin is a steroid based bleach and uses a different mechanism to bleach your skin. Cosmetic surgery offers quite a few treatments like a chemical peel, dermabrasion, cryotherapy, and laser surgery. All these methods try to destroy the skin on the area of the liver spot and the theory is that the skin that eventually heals will be devoid of the black spot. Chemical peels use an acid to burn the skin, dermabrasion uses a mechanical device, and cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the skin. All these carry the rider that the skin that heals over the spot could also be scarred. Probably the most effective is laser therapy in which a high power laser is used to destroy melanocytes. These cells produce the skin pigment melanin.

Home Remedy

Before you go in for any of the cosmetic surgeries, it is worth trying out some natural remedies as well. The main skin-bleaching ingredient that nature has given us is vitamin C. The best source of vitamin C is in citrus fruits like lemons and in onions as well. Make a solution of onion juice by dicing some onions and then squeezing the juice out of them. Then, squeeze some lemon juice into this mix as well. Apply this combined solution on the spots for some time and then wash it off and apply some vitamin E oil on the area. Do this before bedtime.
