Please tell me yoga techniques to increase concentration and confidence.

(April 17, 2012)

Yoga is known to be one of the most effective methods of holistic well being and is primarily focused on deriving a balance between the physical as well as mental aspects of the body. Despite the fact that yoga has been around for centuries, it has only recently come to prominence in a world where the quick results of western medicine are appreciated a lot more than the natural methods of treatment. However, more and more people are waking up to the dangers posed by the many chemicals that are included in most of those medications and the long term effects they can have on the body.

There are a lot of yoga poses and techniques that work effectively towards increasing concentration levels as well as the confidence levels of the individual. The poses and techniques of yoga for concentration as well as yoga for confidence will usually revolve around the meditation techniques as it is these techniques that will allow an individual to gain control over mental as well as physical aspects of the body. The Pranayama is one of the most highly regarded poses and should be practiced regularly. It is also highly recommended that you approach a yoga teacher in order to understand the best techniques in performing the practices as a number of self taught yoga followers don’t follow the right techniques – thereby resulting in them not being able achieve maximum potential.

Is yoga/meditation really helps to improve concentration/self confidence?

In today’s world, it is normal for most people to have a short attention span. This could be because of the fact that we often perform more than one task at a time. Fortunately, there are several ways in which you can improve your focus and concentration. Several people are advised to practice deep breathing techniques and meditation to increase concentration. The ancient practice of yoga is also excellent for improving concentration.
Given below are a few yoga tips to improve concentration:

  • Start with a simple breathing exercise, called the salutation seal, as it helps you focus throughout the rest of your practice.
  • Practice alternate nostril breathing for the next few minutes, as it helps clear your mind.
  • Perform balancing poses, like the Vrikshana (The Tree Pose) for the next few minutes, before moving into the Bakasana (The Crane Pose).
  • A gentle forward bend works wonders in relaxing the mind and therefore, you can spend the next few minutes practicing the Paschimottanasana (The Seated Forward Bend).
  • Bending backwards helps you get rid of distracting thoughts and improves your concentration considerably. Ustrasana (The Camel Pose) can help you achieve this.

Before practicing any yoga tips to improve concentration it is best to check with your doctor and get an approval
