Home remedy to treat swollen lymph nodes: I have swollen glands near the neck. I got the needle test done and found out it is just swollen lymph nodes. Can you please offer any home remedies to reduce the swelling of these glands.

Swollen lymph nodes in the neck would indicate that you have swollen tonsils. The reasons for this occurring should be ascertained, as inflammations don’t just suddenly occur unless there is some kind of genetic history of the disease. Usually, there is some kind of infection that you have acquired and this might be the reason for the inflammation.

Lymph nodes can sometimes also swell up as a result of water retention. This is a situation that occurs when the body fluids accumulate in the tissues and causes visibly characteristic bloating. In a normal situation, the excess fluid is taken back into the body by the circulatory system. Sometimes this doesn’t happen normally. There are a number of reasons why this happens that include the action of histamine in the body. Crucially, the lymph nodes in the body usually act as an overflow reservoir for fluids in the body. If there are irregularities in the body with respect to water retention, these glands could swell up. To start treating this situation, the first step is to rule out and eliminate an inflammation as the cause. Start by taking some natural anti inflammation herbs and therapies. Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory and can be drunk as an additive to tea, or for the very brave, sliced and placed in the back of the mouth. A moderate amount of dehydration should also be practiced. This does not mean forcibly reducing water intake but more practical ones like reducing salt intake. This will reduce your body’s need for excess water to balance the salt levels out. Drinking strong black coffee is also a good method to reduce excessive amounts of water in the body as coffee is a diuretic. This should not be overdone however. Two cups of coffee a day is adequate for this procedure.

After you try these simple methods, check if the swelling of your glands has reduced. If not there might be a bigger problem that will require that you visit an endocrinologist to check if your hormone levels are in balance. You should also talk to your doctor and check if corticosteroids need to be administered to reduce the swelling and inflammation. An interesting therapy that you can also follow is increased physical activity and cardiovascular exercise. This will improve the circulation and organ function in general, so that the body can correct any fluid imbalances. Also, sweating is a good way to lose some of that extra body fluid.
