Hidradenitis Suppurativa Groin Area Boils: Surgery & Remedies

By Patricia | February 3, 2010

Hidradenitis Suppurativa or HS is a very painful disease that is commonly manifested through the appearance of painful blisters or clumps of boils that can last for up to a number of years. This usually happens around the sweat glands and hair follicles that tend to get clogged, leading to the formation of boils. At times, these clusters of boils form open wounds after having become septic. Once these boils become septic they will not heal easily, leading to the formation of pus that drains constantly, causing a lot of discomfort. There are a number of factors linked to the formation of these boils, the most common of them being stress, anxiety, and hormonal changes that are being experienced by the body.

The most common area of occurrence of these boils is in the armpits, and around the groin, while Hidradenitis Suppurativa that occurs around the neckline could also put one through a lot of discomfort. Most often, the boils drain out by themselves and form lesions. In some cases, the lesions may tend to form an underlying network of canals that become practically impossible to cure. Because the wounds formed are open, they are more prone to bacterial infections and cellulitis, which is a deep inflammation of the tissues. Because most people are too ashamed to speak of this illness with their doctors, the disease goes undiagnosed for a number of years, by which time it has progressed to a rather advanced stage.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa Remedies - Surgery

Though there are not many home remedies to treat Hidradenitis Suppurativa, it is recommended that oils which help in reducing bacterial infection be used in a hot bath. Tea tree oil is very effective for the aforementioned purpose and has been recommended for the same. Similarly, the use of herbal soap is also recommended because it does not contain any chemicals which may cause further damage to already sensitive skin. Detoxifying the body by drinking lots of water on a daily basis has proven to be helpful because water will flush out the toxins in the body that are causing the inflammation. At times, medical professionals will advise surgery, but it must be made known that surgery provides only temporary relief. For people suffering from advanced Hidradenitis Suppurativa, Carbon dioxide surgery is considered as the last resort. In this form of surgery, the skin is grafted and patched over the lesions that are formed. However, Carbon dioxide surgery is a very expensive method of treatment for Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
