Treating Burning & Sweaty Feet Naturally

By Patricia | July 8, 2009

The burning sensation in feet or partial numbness can actually be quite painful and a complete nuisance. Even though burning sensation is a direct effect of sweaty feet, it is highly unlikely that the sensation is caused by cirrhosis of the liver.

You might feel as if someone is inserting needles into your feet, so strong is the tingling and the itching that your feet could experience, due to this condition. This sensation is also known as paresthesia. Usually the symptoms start with minor tingling which turns into burning sensations and could also lead to numbness or pain. However, even with the numbness, there are points in the feet where the sensations become heightened. This could be caused by some damage sustained by the sensory nerves of the feet. The nerve could have got damaged or diseased.

Apart from sweaty feet, another cause of the pain and burning in the feet could be a physical injury to the foot. The exact cause of the sensations actually depends on the exact spot of the injury. If the pain and burning is severe, it could also be a direct result of a disease that causes pressure on the nerves of the foot. Some of these diseases include diabetic neuropathies, diabetes or multiple sclerosis. If the pain persists, it would be wise to show it to the doctor. This could be an indication of a serious condition.

Causes

Some of the other causes of burning feet are:

Excessive weight. People who are overweight experience a mechanical overload and their feet tire due to lugging the weight around all day.

Sweaty feet. If your feet are hot and sweat excessively, there could be a fungal infection between your toes that causes the burning and the itching.

Chronic alcoholism or vitamin deficiencies. Consuming large quantities of alcohol may aggravate a diabetic condition and cause discomfort in the feet. Also if there is a deficiency in vitamin B or some kind of heavy metal poisoning, you could experience pain and sensations in your feet.

Blood disorders. Blood disorders like pernicious anemia or thrombocytopenia can also cause the burning sensations.

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome. This is a disease when the nerve in the inside of the ankle gets entrapped.

Home Remedies

To manage the pain in your feet, there are a lot of things you can do, but since there can be many causes for your symptoms, there might not be any one cure. Try these home remedies but if the pain still persists, you might need to show it to a doctor.

  • Get good fitting shoes for your feet so that if you have a mechanical injury, the pain can subside.
  • There are creams that cool the feet which are available in the market. These ointments and creams can provide temporary relief.
  • Put powder on the feet. Powder absorbs the sweat. If it is sweat that’s causing you the discomfort, powder will help control it.
  • Do not wear any socks made of synthetic fibers. Wear only cotton socks.
  • Try to not stand for long periods of time till the discomfort persists.
