Yoga therapy for Chronic Injury Yoga therapy for chronic injury is contrary to the philosophy that many of us were brought up to believe: "no pain, no gain." Yoga therapy, on the other hand, teaches us to find the natural solutions to health disorders; to re-engineer our lives to be in harmony with nature.
Don’t be surprised how many nagging problems just disappear. Yoga therapy has a range of learning aids and practicing tools to helping people on this path.
Yet, even for those who practice non aggressive yoga, it is normal that muscle soreness follows.
This is just the natural breaking down of muscle tissue and its rebuilding which develops strength and flexibility. By the way, it also enhances your performance. The say that injuries are painful since pain is our body's way of telling us that there is a problem which has to be addressed.
If you ignore this message oftentimes, it develops into chronic injury. This becomes more common as you age.
If you try to work through pain you might only worsen what could otherwise have been a minor injury. What’s worse, it could develop more unwanted fascia adhesions (scarring) together with stressed and atrophied soft tissue. When a person is chronically injured, a lot of his / her structures away from a primary injury also get affected. This includes surrounding muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint capsules, and in particular, the fascia. This when chronically contracted, turns into a primary cause of chronic overall pain, weakness, and loss of flexibility.
In order to practise complete Yoga therapy – including gentle yoga poses, breathing exercises, meditation and relaxation n – we recommend Yoga therapy as a non-painful and an extremely effective rehabilitative tool. If appropriately – and wholesomely – practiced, Yoga therapy works on the level of fascia. This serves to rebuild your strength and endurance. It also helps restore and maintain flexibility; both during and after the therapeutic process.
