Yoga Therapy for Acute Episodes of Pain

Yoga therapy for acute episodes of pain is a plain and simple strategy.

During prolonged stages of bed rest Yoga therapy has a vital complementary suggestion for faster results. In Yoga therapy the trick is essentially giving a lot and deep rest to one’s mind-body complex. Hence Yoga therapy can be used even during the sever bouts of the back pain. As Yoga therapy lays more stress on working mentally, once you begin to work on yourself to create deep internal awareness and conscious relaxation and rest.

Then you start to get confidence to progress and manage yourself in later stages as well.

As you lie in bed you get the time and opportunity to withdraw within yourself, and study your life. In so doing, you are able to understand the problems of your lifestyle and, subsequently, plan out a schedule for better management of your whole body mind complex. In order to help yourself with these techniques Yoga therapy teaches you to work with your mind.

Adopt a positive attitude and be an active participant in this holistic treatment regime. Don’t just lie there in bed and take just the doctor's treatment – that too with fear and trepidation.

Yoga therapy’s simple relaxation technique for low back pain is highly recommended during this phase. But you must practise this every once in 2 – 3 hours all through your waking hours. It is called the crossed-legged Lumbar Stretch

How to do it

  • Rest on your back with your legs together. Spread your arms sideways at the shoulders and let your palms firmly rest on the floor.
  • Cross your right leg over your left. This is done by bending your legs at your knees. At the same time, wrap your right foot around your left ankle.
  • Take a deep breath and when exhaling lower your knees to your right. This should be towards the floor, while at the same time you turn your head to your left.
  • As you inhale, bring your knees and your head back to the centre.
  • Do the same thing on the other side.
  • This constitutes one round. You should do at least 5 rounds.
