Backache in Modern Days

There are four major factors for backaches in modern days.

Back aches go with the modern life style which is so responsible for this increasing problem of back pain. Understand this; our muscles are weaker than those of our ancestors. Moreover, technology has made life sedentary, even-tempered and laid-back. Today we have all the tools, aids, gadgets and ever improving transport facilities at our disposal.

All these have drastically cut down our need for physical activity. So much so, that, modern life can be managed easily minus the use of our muscles; and once our level of physical activity goes down, our muscles get weaker and weaker.

Today, anything can happen at the press of a button, on a cellphone, P.C. or a Laptop. This is the cause of diminished stamina in the muscles all over our bodies in general, and, in particular, the strong thick postural muscles of our spine.

It is common knowledge that only regular activity can keep the skeletal muscles strong and sturdy. Our muscle power and stamina keep growing with increased activity and exercise. This also happens, only if we do it in a systematically graded manner with adequate rest and relaxation in between. This is the abiding principle of all body building programs. Yoga therapy is one such program that has excellent solutions for backaches.

Solution for Backaches in modern times

Fortunately Yoga therapy has the ideal solution for this problem. It is the simple and regular practise of the Pavanamuktasana Lumbar Stretch

How to do it

Inhale and slowly raise your right leg up to 90°. Take care not to bend your knee.
Exhale and, now, bend your knee, pull it to your chest with your hands (fingers interlocked) and at the same time raise your head. Make an attempt to touch your knee with your forehead.
Hold the pose for a while feeling the stretch of your back muscles.
Now, with a deep inhalation, stretch your right leg to 90°.
As you exhale, lower your right leg down to the floor.
Repeat the exercise with the other leg.
This constitutes one round. This way, do 5 rounds.
