You should not be surprised to learn that the best way to lose stomach fat is through a healthy diet and regular exercise. A growing body of evidence indicates that the fastest way to burn visceral fat is through a combination of intense aerobic exercise and intensive weight training. According to sports nutritionists the best way to burn abdominal fat is through exercise. In one particular study, research scientists analyzed the efficacy of two exercise and diet plans.
In the first group, subjects were asked to adapt to a diet based on the traditional food guide pyramid that consisted of 52 % carbohydrates, 18% protein, and less than 30% fat. The subjects in group 1 were also asked to perform cardiovascular exercise five days in a week with a maximum heart rate of 50 to 75%. These subjects were told to workout for approximately 40 to 50 minutes.
Group 2 on the other hand, were made to follow a diet that was considerably lower in fat and carbohydrate and high on protein. Their exercise regime comprised of cardiovascular exercise every alternate day and weight training or resistance exercise on the other days. The subjects in group 2 not only lost more fat, overall than group 1, they also gained 2 pounds of muscle and more importantly lost abdominal fat by 26%. On the other hand group one lost abdominal fat by just 14%. In short, volunteers in group 2 lost almost twice as much as stomach fat as those in group 1.
The question then arises, what must be done to lose belly fat or burn stomach fat?
To begin with, you will need to exercise daily and chart out an exercise schedule based on your BMI and eating habits. A complete body training program inclusive of cardiovascular and weight training exercise will help you achieve faster and better results. Here, it is important to note that sit-ups to burn belly fat may not necessarily work, if your diet contains more calories than you burn. It is important to eat the right kind of foods and also ensure that you are consistent in your effort to lose belly fat. To burn visceral fat or burn stomach fat, exercises that are targeted on the tummy can help in firming up the abdominal muscles and flattening the belly. Contrary to popular notion, traditional sit-ups are not exactly the most effective way of firming up your stomach, rather exercises that target the deeper abdominal muscles must be practiced. Specific exercises that can help in toning the stomach include pelvic tilts and pelvic lifts. Strength training is also believed to be highly effective in trimming stomach fat; but before you start pumping iron, you must speak with your doctor on ways to incorporate resistance training in your exercise routine.
