The best way to do this is with exercises that flatten the stomach. It is essential that you follow a complete full body workout - only doing sit ups will not help. Try to swim, walk or jog regularly. Crunches are important. Lie down flat on your back with your legs bent at the knee. Put your hands behind your heads and raise your head and upper body towards your knees. Attempt to get as close to the knee as you can and then slowly lie down again. Breathe out while going up and breathe in while returning to your original position. Follow these crunches with reverse crunches, cross crunches, toe touching, cross toe touching and leg raise exercises. Start off with 10 exercises each and gradually increase the number as you get more comfortable with the routine.

Abdominal flattening exercises are exercises that target all the abdominal muscles.
