Soul Yoga Practice What is Soul Yoga practice? As the name suggests, it implies practising Yoga with your soul.
And heart. It is only when things come from the heart that they can penetrate the region of the Soul or Self.
Most of us tend to do things with our minds or half a mind.
With Yoga, things can be even worse. Considering that most – if not all – folks associate Yoga with the practice of Hatha Yoga, they restrict the practices to the body. But then, the aim of Yoga is “putting together.”
Putting what together, you may ask.
And a good question too. Let’s understand the etymological roots of the term ‘Yoga’. The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit term, ‘Yujir Yogey’ meaning to yoke, to unite, to put together. In a superficial – but not unwarranted – sense, it means putting the mind and body together in harmony. In a deeper sense, though, it means uniting the Individual Soul (Jivatma) with the Supreme Soul (Paramatma).
It is only when you come to comprehend this that you will start to have a grasp of what Yoga is all about. That, in fact, is when you will truly start to commence your Yoga practices. It’s all about understanding. Or you will continue to do things, as you have been doing for lifetimes, as Yoga postulates. The moment you come to understand the true essence of the teachings of Yoga, and then it is that you will start to practice from your heart.
Here I would go one step to reiterate that you will then begin to implement the teachings of Yoga in your daily life. Doing things with awareness is what Yoga is all about. But hardly a few seem to know the importance of this fundamental teaching. The most important thing is to understand and accept this, and then things will automatically start to flow from the heart. And Soul.
